MT5 Prop Firms: What the Platform Actually Changes

MetaTrader 5 is the default for a reason. What it gives a funded trader over MT4 and web platforms, and the three settings to configure on day one.

Platform choice rarely decides whether you pass, but it decides how much friction you fight while doing it.

What MT5 gives you over MT4

  • More timeframes — 21 against 9, which matters for higher-timeframe confirmation.
  • A built-in economic calendar, useful when news trading is permitted.
  • Proper depth of market on instruments that provide it.
  • A faster strategy tester with multi-threaded and multi-currency backtesting.
  • Netting or hedging account modes, depending on how the firm configures it.

Three settings to configure on day one

  1. Set your risk in the order window, not in your head

Use a position size calculator or script so every order is sized from your stop distance rather than typed from memory.

  2. Turn on trade alerts

Especially if you hold overnight — you want to know about a gap before you open the terminal.

  3. Check the server time against your session

Daily loss limits are assessed on the broker's day, not yours. A trade opened at 23:50 server time may land in a different day than you expect.

FundedAxe accounts run on Platform 5, at up to 1:100, with EAs permitted.

Frequently asked questions

Is MT5 better than MT4 for prop trading?

For most traders yes — more timeframes, a built-in calendar and a much faster strategy tester. MT4's remaining advantage is the larger library of older commercial EAs that were never ported.

What platform does FundedAxe use?
